Acapulco, Gro., Mexico (March 2, 2007) - Luxury hotels, Quinta Real Hotels and Resorts announced today it will host celebrations at its Acapulco and Huatulco resorts for the competitors in the upcoming premier regatta. The Regatta being held on March 14-19, will include 17 vessels: Ruahatú, Wasabi, Velocity, Tatei II, Olé 38, Raincloud, Tatei I, Piet Hein, Bandido, Nitissima, Olé, Sirius, Iorana, Virginia, Tequila, Marenostro, and Sandokan. The historical, Galia Moss, from Mexican navigation school "Buque Escuela Cuauhtemoc" will lead the race. Galia Moss was the first vessel in Mexico to sail the Atlantic ocean by herself.
"This event is another example how Quinta Real integrates the passion of sportsmanship along with an opportunity to give back to the communities in where we operate our beach hotels," said Federico Roth, Director of Operations Quinta Real Hotels. "We are especially honored to have the Gala Moss leading the race with its grand sails out of Acapulco Marina."
Before the teams set sail in Acapulco the teams were able to enjoy a variety of host events such as a fine-dining cocktail reception. After the two-day race, the teams will arrive at the pristine beaches of Huatulco, the home of 9 bays and 36 beaches, where the awards ceremony was to be held. Mr. Rodolfo Elizondo, Secretary of Tourism along with his wife were on hand to celebrate the grand class regatta teams and their crew.
Mr. Jose Antonio Alonso, President, Quinta Real Hotels and Resorts took a few minutes to welcome the guests and praise the excellent race they endured. Alonso recognized the event sponsors, which helped make this possible: Acura, Ixe, Telmex, Televisa, Mexicana, Xceed, Ron Matusalén y Maestro Tequilero de José Cuervo, Bisophera Entertainment, Globalstar, Proactive, Fonatur y Club de Yates.
The Class A winning vessel was Wasabi 120 002 sec, piloted by Captain Jorge Ripstien. The Class B vessel names Peit Hien 126 045 sec, piloted by Captain Roberto Vulling. Class C Iorana 129 760 sec, piloted by Captain Jerry O'Hea. All the winners received a trophy from the Mexico's Army as well as a wood grain plaque from Quinta Real Hotels and Resorts. Financial contributions were made to the communities of Oaxaca, where Quinta Real operates one of its fines properties.
